Passive

PASSIVE VOICE

 

If you want to change an active sentence into passive, that active sentence must have an object.

The basic pattern to make a passive sentence is BE + V3.

 

Passive Form
  BE V3
Simple present tense-is, am are-V3
Simple past tense-was, were-V3
Present continuous, past continuous, ...-being-V3
Present perfect, past perfect, ...-been-V3
Modal auxiliary-be-V3

 

Here are the samples of sentences from active into passive:

 

ACTIVE SENTENCE

  • Simple present tense: Every school holiday Doni visits his grandpa in village.

  • Simple past tense: Last month Toni bought a Nokia 5800 express music.

  • Present continuous: The students are reading the books in the library.

  • Present perfect tense: Muthi has faced the final test, recently.

  • Future tense: Next year I will join the speech contest on TV ONE.

  • Modal auxiliary: We must finish our work in time.

 

 

PASSIVE SENTENCE

  • Simple present tense: Every school holiday Doni`s grandpa is visited by him in the village.

  • Simple past tense: Last month a Nokia 5800 express music was bought by Toni .

  • Present continuous: The books are being read by the students in the library.

  • Present perfect tense: The final test has been faced by Muthi, recently.

  • Future tense: Next year the speech contest will be joined by me on TV ONE.

  • Modal auxiliary: Our workmust be finished by us in time.
