Gerund

GERUND

It is a noun which is derived from a verb by adding “-ing

 

a.         Gerund as a subject.

           

            For examples:

1.      Swimming makes us healthy

2.      Studying English is fun

3.      Having breakfast is good for our early energy

 

b.         Gerund as an object.

           

            For examples:

1.      I enjoyplaying the football

2.      She likes eating the fried rice

 

c.         Gerund as a complement.

           

1.      His hobby is reading the novel

2.      My planning is buying the notebook

 

d.         Gerund after preposition.

            (gerund after: in, on, at, for, to, above, of, …)

1.      I am interested in watching the drama

2.      I look forward to hearing from you soon

 

e.         Gerund after possesive adjective

            (gerund after “my, your, our, their, his, her, …”)

1.      Yourcoming is needed by the team

2.      Histeaching is so fun

 

f.          Gerund after certain verbs.
